In a trades business, the phone is the cash register. Every call that goes to voicemail is a customer who is probably calling the next company on the list.
Decide the rules now
- Who answers during business hours, and who covers when they are on a job?
- What happens after hours: an answering service, a forwarding schedule, or a clear voicemail with a callback promise?
- How fast do missed calls get a call back? Set a real number and stick to it.
- What gets written down on every call: name, number, address, the problem, and how they found you.
Track where calls come from
Asking every caller how they heard about you costs nothing and pays off the day you start marketing. It is the start of knowing what works.
